Water Conservation at Resurrection

Prayer for the Conservation of Natural Resources
From the Book of Common Prayer

Almighty God, in giving us dominion over things on earth,
you made us fellow workers in your creation: Give us wisdom
and reverence so to use the resources of nature, that no one
may suffer from our abuse of them, and that generations yet
to come may continue to praise you for your bounty; through
Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

This letter provided an update on 2016 - 2017 water conservation efforts on the church grounds during the drought. When weather conditions call for conservation efforts, Church of the Resurrection is prepared to comply with any water conservation goals that would be established by the Contra Costa Water District.

The Contra Costa Water District (CCWD) had initially set a conservation goal of 25% for 2015 and 2016.  In November the CCWD adjusted the conservation goal towards a voluntary rather than mandatory goal, but asked that we keep maintaining a decrease in usage as compared to the original 2013 baseline year.

We have continued to review our CCWD bills over the past three years (2013 thru 2016) to establish a consumption baseline, and continue monitoring our CCWD invoices to check usage.

From January 2014 to November 2016 there are seasonal fluctuations in water usage due to weather considerations and campus usage.  The summer months always increase, while the winter months decrease in typical consumption.

The average consumption has become stable in 2015/2016, with less “spiking” of usage during certain periods.  This would indicate the repair of any leaks on the property to better control usage.  Even with seasonal fluctuations, Church of the Resurrection in general consumes approximately 100-200 gallons per day less than the original baseline.

If you notice any sprinkler problems or leakage around the grounds, please call the office and we will repair.  If you have any questions regarding this information, please contact me.
