There are many opportunities for teens to grow in faith through trusted personal relationships with their peers and appropriate adult advisors. We are committed to creating a safe place place for middle and high school teens where matters of the heart and soul can be shared and discussed. All staff and volunteers who work with young people at Church of the Resurrection has been background-checked by the state of California and have received training and recognizing and preventing child abuse.
Bagels and Bible
During the 10:15 service kids in grades 6-12 gather to eat bagels and cream cheese and creatively discuss the Bible readings of the day. The youth join their parents and the rest of the congregation at The Peace, for communion and the end of the service.
On most Sundays our middle school youth group meets at 4:30 PM, dinner for both the middle school and high school groups is served at 5:30 PM, and high schooler youth group meet at 6:00. In addition to goofing around we explore a range of contemporary issues of life and faith. Our hope is to give our kids a solid understanding of the Episcopal Church and Christianity, then ask them to question it, test it with their own experience and apply it to the world. The teens also take on periodic service projects, retreats and trips to places like Squaw Valley, Disneyland and Santa Cruz.
The God Squad is made up of youth groups from a number of nearby churches. We often gather on the last Sunday of each month for a game like Ultimate Frisbee or capture the flag. We also take two or three service retreats each year and we put together a major summer service trip to help teach the kids about serving people who are less fortunate and about the breadth of spirituality in this world.
Confirmation classes are offered to high school youth every two years.
