Yoga: A Lenten Practice

March 1, 2023 @ 6:30 pm

Lent is often thought of as a time to give something up. Another, perhaps more refreshing approach might ask, What can I make space for during Lent? Here’s something to consider…

Join us in the Parish Hall each Wednesday evening in Lent.

Yoga mats available. No equipment or fitness needed. Restorative practice of mindfulness, connecting body to breath. Offered by CC Kelly, experienced yoga guide. Your body is your teacher.

A few notes on the subject…

Yoga is a mindfulness practice over and above anything else. It’s a yoking of movement to breathe. Big movement, small movement; the emphasis is on the breath. Wednesday nights during Lent we will make intentional space for mind/body connection in community, where; as in prayer, worship and service we come together to do what we find hard to do alone.

In years past, we’ve had a weekly yoga practice at Church of the Resurrection that included an equal mix of parishioners and neighbors. We gathered for a meal around the island in the kitchen once a month as we discovered we were a community of like-minded individuals seeking connection. Our practice of yoga is energizing and restorative, it doesn’t require experience or a certain body type or fitness; we listen to our bodies and focus on our breath. It’s a centering practice, being present on our matt, stepping away from our day, listening to our bodies and focussing on our breath. Physically we open our hearts and our hands, we laugh, we stretch, we are silent, we are still. As in worship, we leave transformed.

Please reach out to CC Kelly 925.313.9000 or Jenelle Towle 925.285.8844 or Scott Williams if you have questions or hesitations. Or better yet: show up and see!

Namaste.
